Signing off April

April, my birthday month, didn’t feel like something to announce so much as something to move through—steadily, in the work itself.

From signing a contract with Cambridge University Press Assessment for an upcoming article in Traditions of Music and Dance to teaching Writing to Shift Systems with changemakers across Canada, April arrived as a month of quiet unfolding—marked more by learning than by announcement.

I’ve been grateful to see the non-fiction essays I’ve written over the past few months—following the publication of my memoir, Writing in the Wound—begin to find their way into the world.

For those who may have missed them:

– A December Sigh — Westword Magazine

– Overcoming the Trauma of Erasure — OC87: Recovery Diaries Recovery Diaries

– The Practice of Listening to the Wound — Wise Brain Bulletin

April also brought a new blog conversation and interview with the Community Development Learning Initiative (CDLI), along with the announcement of my upcoming course, Writing in the Wound, at the Alexandra Centre Society (online).

The work continues to unfold in unexpected ways. The book recently received its first reviews, along with a Silver Award from Literary Titan.

Quietly, steadily, the writing is finding its readers.

I’ve also been honoured to be part of the upcoming Hannah Arendt anthology with IHRAM Press, to be released this June, alongside a special concert in New York.

I’ll be sharing more about the behind-the-scenes journey of this work—Catabasis—in the coming weeks.
