This Thanksgiving, my heart is full of gratitude. ❤️🍁

As Writing in the Wound celebrates its first anniversary, I want to take a moment to thank the beautiful community of readers, writers, artists, scholars, and friends who have been part of its journey.

To everyone who supported the GoFundMe campaign in 2025, offered words of encouragement, contributed generous blurbs, shared the book, or took the time to write a review on Goodreads and beyond—thank you!!!

Every gesture has helped this story find its way into the world.

My heartfelt thanks to @actiondignity, the Canadian Centre for Ethnomusicology at @ualberta, the Canadian Authors Association, the @cnfcollective, and the Artsy Raven Podcast for creating spaces to share chapters and conversations from the book. Thank you also to the @alexandrawriters and the amazing students I encountered in my courses and the meaningful conversations!

A special thank you to @ihram_press Press and @hannaharendtcenteratbard for sharing my story *Catabasis* and inviting me into meaningful conversation

I am also grateful to the @werklundcentre Centre and @artistspeakyyc for bringing artists together for memorable conversations about wellness, creativity, and the courage to share our stories.

Writing a book may begin as a solitary journey, but bringing it into the world takes a community.

Thank you for listening, reading, believing, and helping these stories travel beyond the pages.

My days in Canada may be numbered, but my gratitude for the people, communities, and organizations who have believed in my voice and supported my journey knows no borders.

While IRCC may question whether I have made a significant contribution to “Canadian culture,” the communities that have welcomed my work, amplified my voice, and created spaces for my stories to be heard remind me that cultural contributions cannot always be measured through bureaucratic assessments.

Whatever the future holds, the kindness I have encountered, the stories we have shared, and the connections we have created will forever remain part

This Thanksgiving, I choose #gratitude.
